The Australian Fur Seal has mastered the art of breath hold diving which allows them to dive to depths of >130m in search of fish and invertebrates! It loves the cold nutrient rich waters of the Great southern Reef where they can be commonly found in the south-east on exposed rocky shores. They mate in November/December and the mums have a unique superpower of pausing the development of their embryo to give themselves some space between the birth of their pups.
